Ranch Roundup Field Trip

Register Your Class By September 4, 2026!

Howdy Third and Fourth Grade Teachers…

We are calling y’all to a FREE ranch-themed field trip!

Rustle up your students and mosey on over to Aliso Viejo Ranch for our Semi-Annual Ranch Roundup! This history jamboree is tailored for third and fourth graders.

A Blast From The Past

The Ranch Roundup Field Trip offers interactive learning stations, historic buildings, authentic farm equipment, and reenactors portraying turn-of-the-century lifestyles. The stations are aligned with the CCSS History Social Science, English Language Arts, and Life Science standards. They are led by knowledgeable staff in a welcoming, open-air environment, ensuring your students have a rich, educational experience they’ll never forget.

Due to a partnership with the City of Aliso Viejo, the Moulton Museum is able to utilize the Aliso Viejo Ranch to provide a unique educational experience that truly maximizes the resources available there.

The Ranch Roundup field trip has been customized for this site, which reflects the authentic activities of the Moulton Ranch that occurred between the years of 1920 to 1950.  During that time the current property was a small part of a much larger, 22,000 acre ranch operation.

For instance, the Ranch houses the remains of an old blacksmith cabin. Ranch Roundup participants will attend a dynamic blacksmith demonstration where they learn about how and why blacksmithing was an important part of ranch life. The property also preserves an original bunkhouse where the ranch-hands slept. Attendees will step back in time to play old-fashioned games that the ranch-hands played to unwind before bed.

Ranch Roundup Benefits

There are many benefits to bringing your class to the Aliso Viejo Ranch!

Educational

Moulton Museum's Education Committee has worked hard to ensure state standards are met at each of the stations!

Hands On

Students get a chance to get their hands dirty and practice roping, planting, and other activities!

Authentic

The buildings at Aliso Viejo Ranch were built in the 1930s and have been wonderfully restored!

The Inaugural Event

April 28, 2026 was our first Ranch Roundup field trip and we are so excited to continue this program with a wonderful mix of public and charter schools.

Tailored to third and fourth grade students, the Ranch Roundup field trip promises to be a fun history jamboree with a combination of hands-on activities, re-enactments, readers’ theater, music, and learning opportunities.

Thank You For Your Support

We are grateful for the support of the O.L. Halsell Foundation, which has supported Moulton Museum’s educational endeavors for over five years, and for a one-time special grant we received from Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley’s Office. We are also grateful for the dozens of volunteers who have joined in the planning and execution of this event, and to our external participant partners: Mission Viejo’s Future Farmers of America students, Vista Forge, and Ortega Equestrian Center.
