The Moulton Museum offers a wide range of rewarding and enriching ways to get involved! Explore below to learn more about ways to contribute.

Are you ready to share the vibrant history of Orange County? Start by attending a Volunteer Open House. We would love to work with you and prepare you to share this story with the public. Please fill out the form so we can schedule your interview. We will provide docent training. Let us know your general availability and past experiences that will prepare you for this volunteer position. Please note that we will conduct a background check to ensure our community’s safety. All applicants will also be required to follow our Volunteer Manual.

Active Opportunities

Do you enjoy meeting new people and sharing the history of the area? Represent the museum at our community gatherings with our partners. You will be provided in-person or Zoom training about each event. Specific goals for each forum will be provided.

Help us manage our check-in table, share refreshments with guests, or support set-up/tear down.

As a Moulton Museum volunteer, you will lead guided tours at the museum for group tours, students, and open hours of operation. You will be an integral part of the museum experience. Guests come to the museum with a variety of backgrounds and knowledge on the subject. You will be the authority on the topic. Your job is to provide the students with a positive and rewarding learning experience while supporting the museum’s vision. The museum encourages you to have fun, use anecdotes, humor, music, and role play to help the experience be memorable.

 

As a docent, you will act as a steward of the collection on display. While a tour is being conducted, you are responsible for the learning experience of each group and need to be aware of where each guest is during the tour as a team.

Moulton Museum honors the pioneer spirit and works to bring history to life through storytelling.

We are expanding the collective understanding of the ranching era and its lasting impact on the economic, social, architectural, and cultural fabric of Orange County. Ranching and agriculture are central to the identity of the Moulton family to this day. Help us expand our mission to serve our community by helping us identify and submit grants for our 501c3 non-profit.

Volunteer Duties include the following:
– Identifies funding opportunities in grant databases
– Collaborate with other museum team to complete grant applications, proposals, letters of inquiry and other required documents
– Assists in maintaining grant calendar and database to track submitted, pending and on-going proposals

We offer classroom tours at our museum and gallery. The team provides interactive learning opportunities that include our telegraph station and art activity. Help us provide classroom tours.

Requirements

Docent

We offer group tours of the museum and gallery. Share the story of Orange County with guests. We provide the training and tour script, so start shadowing an experienced docent to begin your journey.

Classroom Educators

We offer classroom tours at our museum and gallery. The team provides interactive learning opportunities that include our telegraph station and art activity. Help us provide classroom tours.

Researcher

We have thousands of photos, slides, maps, furniture, fine art, and historic objects in our collection. Help us add metadata to our content management system in Omeka as a researcher. You can help us transcribe personal papers from Moulton Ranch or find data surrounding the physical objects in our collection.

Internship

We provide academic internships. Please send us your C.V. and cover letter. Reach out to us to learn more about this opportunity.

Advisory Council

We are implementing our strategic plan with our key advisors. Our counsel has been involved with other non-profits and corporate experiences. Your background will help us develop into an award-winning institution and receive accreditation from the American Alliance for Museums.

Event Ambassador

Do you enjoy meeting new people and sharing the history of the area? Greet guests and represent the museum at our community gatherings with our partners. Network and learn at our community events. Help us set-up and tear down our portable displays. You will attend committee meetings and will be given a role for each event.
