In this edition of our newsletter, we celebrate our Grand Opening! The Moulton Family thanks you for joining them for this historic moment.

Thank you for visiting us. Moulton Museum’s debut in Laguna Hills took place on September 2nd & 3rd, 2022. We had nearly 1,000 visitors over the course of two days.

Moulton Museum welcome message from Jared Mathis, President and Great-Grandson of Lewis Moulton. Join us on a journey to 1874: Into the West at our new museum in Laguna Hills!

Visit us on Tuesdays from 11am-3pm and on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays by appointment to see 1874: Into the West and Nellie’s Gallery!

The Pioneer Spirit mural is featured within the Moulton Museum. It was created by Luis Barajas Ochoa, LCAD graduate.  Luis designed each section based on Nellie Gail Moulton’s extraordinary life.

Admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850, the U.S. Federal Census of that year tallied California’s population at 92,597.

Museum Day – Sept. 17, 2022

Join us on Saturday, September 17th for Museum Day! We partnered with the Smithsonian Museum and Moulton Niguel Water District to offer free admission. Join us from 11am-3pm for a fun-filled day at the museum. Complete our passport and worksheets.

Did you know?
That in September 1870 Captain Samuel Dunnells “safely navigated his 105-ton sternwheeler river steamer Vaquero from the ocean into the lower bay and all the way into the upper bay where he unloaded a cargo of lumber and shingle. Upon hearing the news, the first James Irvine hurried to the San Joaquin Ranch from his home in San Francisco.”

September 7th, 1889- Cyrus B. Rawson formed a Deed of Trust to Lawrence C. Fenno & Robert L. Crowder (1st Part) and (John) Brooks Fenno (Second Part) [April 3, 1816- February 14, 1894]

September 11, 1887- Domingo Joseph Daguerre was born to Jean Pierre and Maria Eugenia Daguerre in El Toro.

September 11, 1933 – Lewis “Lewie” Moulton Mathis was born. He studied at Davis Agricultural College.
