California Trains – Orange County Module Railroaders

Orange County Module Railroaders will be exhibiting their trains at Moulton Museum from October 19-26, 2023. They bring model railroading to the public and offer a Kids Run Trains program. OCMR Kids Run Trains allow children (usually age 5 to 16) to run member owned trains on our layout using a club throttle. A parent or guardian can sign their child up and each child makes at least one lap around the layout, accompanied by a club member to help them manage the train throttle and avoid mistakes.

Learn from their historic train displays about early Orange County. Their Santa Fe depots will take you back to an era when Nellie Gail Moulton arrived at the El Toro station in 1903 to help John Gail, her dad, operate the general store. That summer, she met Lewis Moulton and started courting him until 1908, when they married.

The OCMR docents will be available to demonstrate and answer questions about their HO scale trains. No reservation needed to visit the museum. Donations are appreciated for this non-profit.

Did You Know?

  • OCMR is a non-profit club to further the education and enjoyment of model railroading through exhibits.
  • The members create unique displays without kits and use HO scale for all their designs.
  • Individual members decide the era and theme of their modules. Van Schultz, President of OCMR, has provided a long-term loan of his El Toro diorama, featured.
  • They create modules that include a switching yard, service area, industrial complex, agricultural area, or snaking the mainlines through a remote mountain pass.
  • OCMR sometimes mixes eras or locations, so it is not uncommon to see a steam-powered train operating on the layout at the same time as a modern diesel-powered intermodal lashup.
