Celebrating 250 Years of Legacy at Moulton Museum
This June, the Moulton Museum is honored to showcase a special pop-up exhibition celebrating the creativity, perspective, and community spirit of local students as part of San Juan Capistrano’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Presented in conjunction with our major summer exhibition, Scenes of the American Revolution: The Augmented Experience, the SJC250 Student Art Contest Exhibition highlights the voices of the next generation through art inspired by history, identity, and community.
Celebrating “250 Years of Legacy”
The San Juan Capistrano 250th Celebration Student Art Contest invited students from across the community to reflect on the theme:
“250 Years of Legacy: Our City, Our Nation.”
Seventy-nine students representing 15 schools throughout San Juan Capistrano, ranging from grades 1 through 12, submitted original artwork inspired by the city’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
The artwork beautifully captures themes including:
- Mission San Juan Capistrano
- Acjachemen culture and resilience
- Equestrian traditions
- America’s founding ideals
- Community pride and local identity
Originally displayed in the Mission San Juan Capistrano Soldiers Barracks during April and May, the winning artworks will now be exhibited at the Moulton Museum throughout the month of June.
Honoring Student Creativity and Community Heritage
At the Moulton Museum, we believe history is not only preserved through artifacts and exhibitions, but also through storytelling, creativity, and community connection. This special student exhibition reflects how young artists interpret the legacy of the past while imagining the future of their community.
As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, programs like this help cultivate appreciation, reflection, and dialogue across generations.
