Moulton Roundup

The Moulton family gathered in Maxwell, CA for their annual reunion and roundup. The community participates in the cattle roundup for routine vaccinations and branding. The cowboys arrive at sunrise on horseback to help gather the herd. Families join in during the celebration at the end of a hard day’s work to music and dancing. There are horseshoe competitions and lively conversations. View the gallery of photos at moultonmuseum.org/2020roundup and share your own!

Moulton Ranch Roundup, Circa 1940

Description: A large roundup crowd gathers at the Moulton Ranch. Dozens of cars are parked on the street behind the barbed wire fencing and on the open field itself for the potluck. This photo was taken near the corrals which are situated in modern day Aliso Viejo in the Wood Canyon area close to Soka University. Notice the 1937 Ford Deluxe Station Wagon on the right-hand side of the image and Dunlop Trailers on the left. Some individuals are riding horses. The image is damaged due to the aging process with a large vertical strip of exposure.

“She was a painter who desired to meld two approaches to the landscape,” Laguna College of Art + Design President Jonathan Burke said. “In her best work, she deftly balances both the painterly plein-air and the linear and classical to celebrate the natural world.” The exhibit was highlighted nationwide by ARTFIXdaily.
